Having an opt-in mailing list is much cheaper than sending direct mail. The cost of printing, envelopes, paper and delivery soon add up in a direct mail campaign. So consider if some of these cost savings can be used to further your marketing to get opt-in subscribers.
Some of the things you could offer your potential subscribers in order to get them to share their precious email address with you.
- A regular newsletter – if you’re offering this alone, your chance of opt-in subscribers is limited. People expect a lot in order to part with their email address. Consider offering a freebie related to your niche as an incentive.
- Make it easy to subscribe. Make the whole subscription as easy and painless as possible. An autoresponder account can help with this process again, handling all of the technical details for you. Remember always to let your potential subscribers know the benefits of joining your opt-in mailing list.
- Provide quality content. I can never stress enough how important high quality, targeted content is for your readers and subscribers. Be sure that what you offer in your newsletter or ecourse or even your sales promotions material (whatever you send), is good information for your subscriber and they can benefit from getting your email.
- Participate in forums and discussion boards on your chosen topic. Work on building your reputation with credibility in your industry.
- Write articles. I can never stress enough that this is one of the best ways to market on the Internet. You become an expert in your chosen field of interest. You create credibility. Article marketing should be a major part of your website marketing strategy and therefore part of building your opt-in mailing lsit. Always let people know how to subscribe in your resource box at the end of your articles.
- Co-registration is a good way to build a large list in a short time. A co-registration lead is someone who has expressed interest in a topic and given permission to send other related information while they were doing something else. for example, a person downloads a report or give and in the process, chooses other free ezines they can subscribe to.
Coregistration is not a free option and there is varied opinion on how well it works. If you want to use this option, do your research before paying anyone for co-registration leads.
- Create an ebook. It’s an excellent freebie for those who visit and agree to subscribe to your list. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or more than about 15 pages long. You can create an ebook by going to Ezine Directories and using the best articles (along with the author’s resource box) and putting them together. You can create a list of tips or resources. You can have something ghost written if you want original content you don’t want to personally write.
When building an opt-in mailing list, remember you must be offering something of high perceived value to your potential subscribers. Good quality opt-in lists are the foundation of profitable internet businesses, so do your research and keep your eyes open for improvements and new strategies as they are appearing all the time.
One you have an opt-in mailing list, there is work in maintaining the interest to keep your opt-in’s subscribed. It has to be of real value to your subscribers to keep getting your emails into their inboxes and more so for them to open and read them every time they arrive.
