You can choose text, graphics or both for your adsense ads, but which is the best for your site?
As a Google Adsense publisher, you can choose to use text or graphics. As people don’t tend to click on banners much anymore, is there any point in using graphics ads with your adsense campaigns?
Image ads get more visual response, yet are less likely to create sales, while text ads convert more clicks, they are less visible, so which to use with your Google Adsense ad campaign on your site?
Text ads are the least intrusive. They can be used on a website or blog with subtlty, blending in almost seamlessly with the site. However, customers are used to graphic advertising from their free email accounts and other web services. Graphic ads can be pay per impression because the advertiser wants to promote a brand, not specifically make a sale. Graphic ads tend to have low conversion rates, yet create better brand awareness. Targeted adsense ads may or may not suit your website or articles for visual appeal.
The biggest issue with graphic ads is that they are harder to regulate. While all ads are checked, it could happen that a graphic ad can slip through where the associated keywords are “advertising, marketing, promotion and sales” but the graphic is for a beauty product and may or may not contain images which are not suited to your site.
Text ads are more poplular because they are faster to create. Many businesses can’t afford to get the graphics created, but a savvy person can write a great text ad. Text ads are much cheaper and faster to creat too, as a graphic designer could take a week or two and a few hundred dollars to design the creative, while a text ad can be prepared in a few minutes. Advertisers can write their Adwords ads in just a few minutes.
Advertisers prefer text ads to bring clicks and sales. They pay a click through rate and get targeted traffic. They can watch their statistics to see if there are any issues with a particular ad. They are more easily able to control their budgets.
As a website or blog owner, your best choice is usually to place text ads within the content of your website or blog. If you want to use graphic ads with your adsense ad campaigns, use either towers on the side of your page or a banner right at the top right hand corner of your pages. These are the graphics ads that still work.
Your best targeted adsense ads will come from text ads. Your click through rate (and the advertisers too) will come from using text ads placed inside your content and blended into your site.
