Pay-per-click advertising, as it’s name suggests, is when you pay for someone browsing a search engine to click your link.
Pay-per-click advertising will list your site according to the amount of money you bin on a particular search keywords. In theory, the more you bid, the higher you are ranked.
Pay-per click advertising can be very reasonable in cost compared to other forms of advertising. You are only getting targeted visitors to your site, who are interested enough in your ad to click on it. Therefore, the rate of clicks to buyers should be quite high.
You are in charge of the wording of the ad, the keywords that you use and the amount you will spend each day on your advertising. You don’t spend anything until someone clicks on your link and visits your web site. By choosing the best keywords for your target market, you are not going to get a lot of people visiting your site who are not interested in knowing more about your product.
While Google is clearly the current dominating player in pay-per-click advertising, there are many other places out there offering the same option and they may be far cheaper. However, they don’t have as much traffic as Google, but they still are able to target to your intended audience.

Here are a few things you need to remember when starting your pay-per-click advertising campaign.
- When planning your PPC campaign, be very clear about the results you want and the budget you have to achieve it, or you can very easily have the cost run far above what you intended. Consider that a tiny budget of just $10 a day will cost you $300 in a month and even a conservative budget of $25 a day will cost you $750 for the month.
- You need to have a very good landing page prepared for your targeted visitors to arrive onto, with the aim of converting them to buyers. At the very least, you should aim to convert them to subscribers to your email marketing campaigns.
- Spend time doing research into the very best keywords and keyphrases you can find to use in your PPC campaign. Check on the cost of each of these keywords (Google’s Keyword Research Tool works well here, as does Overture) and also the expected volume. Be aware that if you’re using Google’s keyword checker, the results shown always seem to be higher than the reality of actual impressions. If you don’t want to spend all that time researching keywords, then discover now how you too can create highly profitable adWords campaigns in under one minute
- Look for keywords that are not already heavily advertised, but that have a fair amount of traffic each month, yet aren’t popular (they are less expensive). A keyword falling into this category may be as little as a few cents per click. Keyword Elite is one of the best keyword research tools around – check it out here.
- Spend time preparing the best ads you can for your pay per click advertising campaign, using your chosen keywords. Create several almost identical ads for each and every keyword or phrase you are using. Remember to test and measure the results of all the ads to see which is performing best.
- Try several versions of your landing page to see if there is a difference in results. Make sure that you only change one single thing on each version, or you won’t know what is working and what is not. Experiment with headings, and text size as well as your content.
- Have a realistic expectation of your intended results. Not everyone who clicks your link is going to take action. Typically you can expect a sales page to yield 1% – 10% sales, so do your maths to work out how many clicks it will take to make a sale (1 in 100 – 10 in 100 on the previous figures) and how much you can afford to pay to get the sale.
- Decide where you are going to run your pay per click campaign, because you have a lot of choices. Consider using pay per click Facebook ads for the following three reasons: They’re more targeted than Google, Facebook has a larger audience (39 billion page views per month!!) and they’re a fraction of the cost of most pay per click advertising on the major search engines.Pay-per-click advertising campaigns are one of the biggest marketing tools there are on the internet. Take your time preparing your campaign, plan your outcome, decide on your advertiser and then try it for yourself.
