You might think that’s a strange title for a post, but keep reading.
Cooper is my new kitten. I’ve had him 2 days. He’s 4 months old and as cute as a button. Already, his own personality is shining through. He’s bright, fearless and completely curious. These are all things that marketers should have.
He can work things out. He’s already testing how to open cupboards, how to climb up and down the stairs and how he might possibly make friends with our old cat, who hates the new kitten with a vengeance.
Marketing is a lot like being Cooper. An insatiable curiousity to learn what is where and why. The curiosity to keep looking and investigating everything. In finding new things and giving them the once over to determine if they’re worth more investigation or if you should move on.
The fearlessness of a kitten is unbounded. He doesn’t chase his own shadow against the wall thinking, what if I get hurt? He doesn’t climb the furniture or the windowsill fearing he will fall. He’s looking for new horizons, new experiences.
He’s not afraid to try to make friends with our unfriendly and unwelcoming old cat. He just keeps on trying, sidling up again and again even though he’s being hissed and growled at. I don’t recommend this will make sales if you transferred it to marketing, but the stick with it attitude until you get the result you want should definitely be one that’s added to every marketer’s reportoire.
It’s not that Cooper doesn’t know when to give up, because he does. When he got a (surprisingly gentle smack) from Tabby (the old cat), he realised it was time to walk away, at least for a while.
Intelligence to work things out, the curiosity to know everything about his environment (in marketing terms that would be product and market) and the absence of fear all make valuable lessons a little kitten can teach us about how to be successful in our chosen niche.

That’s a pretty excellent article, i was reading something similar on another website not too long ago that essentially said the same thing although yours is clearer, plus its nice to have some validation on seeing two sources agree.
