5 Emailing Mistakes to Avoid With Your Opt-In Subscriber List

Your opt-in subscriber list is potentially worth a lot of money to you over time, don’t risk it by being careless with your email marketing campaign.

You have an opt-in list, but it’s not quite as simple as sending your subscribers emails or ezines whenever you choose. You need consistency if you are to stop people leaving your list as fast as they get onto it if you want to be successful in your email marketing campaign.

You also need to consider the law in your country and your Internet service providers when sending out emails. It’s by far the safest for you to ensure you have a double opt-in list for your subscribers. One of the easiest ways to do this is use one of the email marketing services on the Internet who will take care of all of that for you. They not only take care of your opt-in lists, they provide dozens of email marketing templates, take care of all the email marketing software, so you don’t have to install it, and keep everything above board in your email marketing campaign.

It will protect both you and your subscribers from spamming complaints and unwanted emails flooding their inbox. People don’t want you sending your marketing message to them three times every day and will unsubscribe in floods if you do. Keep your email marketing campaign above board and follow the general rules on running your opt-in lists successfully.

# MISTAKE 1 – Not Providing A Way To Unsubscribe

Once you have an opt-in list, people have agreed to receive your ezines and marketing materials. Don’t forget to provide a way for your optin subscribers to unsubscribe in each and every email you send as part of good email list management.

# MISTAKE 2 – Not Taking Unsubscribe Requests Seriously

If someone asks to unsubscribe, then make sure they are removed from your email list. Ignoring them means you are then sending unsolicited emails or spam. If you are reported as a spammer, it is up to you to prove you are not. Your entire website can get shut down as a result of sending spam email and you can be blacklisted by the Internet service providers as well as be in trouble with the law.

# MISTAKE 3 – Failing To Keep Your List Clean

If you are using one of the reputable and commercial email marketing services, this will be much easier for you to manage. There are many tools available to keep your list clean. That is, not full of junk emails and invalid (bounced) addresses. Your marketing strategy in this area is worth the time and effort.

Pay attention to your bounced emails. These are also returned as undeliverable. Sometimes it’s because a persons inbox is full, or because their mail server was busy or down, mostly it’s because the account no longer exists. Remove emails that bounce more than once so you can keep an accurate record of subscribers.

Easier still, pay for a reputable email marketing services to manage your email subscriptions for you.

If you are going to consider taking paid email advertising, then it’s vital to have accurate statistics for your opt-in lists.

# MISTAKE 4 – Not Following The Rules

Don’t spam; don’t bombard people’s inboxes. Avoid trouble with your Internet services provider and possibly the law. There are specific laws in different countries, so make sure you know what your laws are regarding email marketing. Keep your business legitimate. Follow ethical marketing rules to keep yourself out of trouble. People will stay away from you in droves if they know you are in trouble with the law which is definitely not a part of your marketing strategy.

If you are going to do an email blast, then do not use one of the companies online that claim they can do this for you. Only send emails to your own list. Email blast software is likely to get you into big trouble by sending thousands of emails to people you do not have permission to send to.

Avoid mailing lists too unless you are certain that all of the subscribers are double opt-in and are aware that they would be on a list that was for sale or rent.

# MISTAKE 5 – Sending Inappropriate Material

This is a real biggie. You cannot prove the age of someone receiving your email, so keep your content completely clean. Don’t put shocking or deeply disturbing or pornographic content into your emails. If you are providing that kind of content, put it on your site in a protected area. Provide links to it in your emails and provide very clean warning about the exact contents of the page.

If you avoid the mistakes listed in this article, you can keep up a long term, happy relationship with your opt-in subscribers and stay within the law, so you can keep sending emails to an ever growing opt-in list as a significant part of your email marketing campaign and overall online marketing efforts.

  3. Hey – nice blog, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I’m currently using WordPress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?

      Hi Article Writing Service

I am running WordPress too. I think it depends on what add-ons you use as to the functionality. The basic WordPress setup is a bit bland. Choose a template that allows you to heavily customise, then look through the myriad of add-ons in your administrative area to find the functions you want. I particularly like wp-insert, which allows you to add almost any code, to lots of different places on your site.

  8. Great work! I also have my own blog I just find it hard to write quality content like this.
I guess I really don’t have the time.

Hi and thanks for leaving such a nice comment. It is work to write articles, but once you master a few basics, it gets much easier. I think the trick is to make the time daily or weekly to sit down and do a solid amount of writing. If you don’t have enough time, consider hiring a ghost writer.
