How To Plan Your Website Promotion Strategy For Maximum Results

Your website promotion strategy is something every website owner, blog owner and webmaster should do on a regular basis. Your website promotion strategy is how your sales process begins and there are thousands of ways you can promote your website.

How you structure your website promotion strategy depends on many factors. The first thing you need to do is get people to your website, which effectively means you’re working on getting people to click a link, or type in your web address into their browser. At the point they do this, they are very hot prospects, because they’ve shown enough interest in your advertsing to make the effort to visit. Now is your chance to sell to them.

This means that your ad has to be structured to entice the reader to click. Your website copy will then make the sales.

SET YOUR BUDGET

You must plan and set a budget for your marketing strategy, otherwise money will slip through your fingers and you won’t even know where it’s gone. Once you decide on your budget, stick to it. Plan to invest a percentage of sales back into your marketing budget each month.

If you’re using a PPC campaign, your budget is more important than ever. Decide how much you can afford for your clicks. You’ll need to watch your clicks and your sales (see tip 3) to establish conversion rates. For example, if it takes 50 people clicking on your ad to make a sale, your conversion rate is 2% (1 sale/50 clicks). If your product sells for $20, then, in order to make a profit of 20%, or $4, you have $16 to spend. That means you can spend $0.32 cents per click ($16/50 clicks).

From there you can go further and work out how many sales a day you want and work out your budget.

If you don’t have a budget, or it’s limited, there are many free ways to promote your site. It’s really up to you if you have time (low budget), or money (higher budget).

WRITE YOUR AD:

Getting people to click relies on you having a great headline. I’ve written articles on writing a good headline, look them up.

Your aim is to leave your reader no choice but to click to find out more. This is called a call to action. How you get this click from readers is through advertising. You could  use exchanges, forums, article resource boxes (to name a few free advertising methods) or you could use pay-per-click (PPC), newspapers or magazines to get your message out there. It’s a very simple equation. The more people who see your ad = the more people who will click your link = the more sales you will end up converting from your sales copy.

TEST, TEST AND RETEST YOUR RESULTS

This is the step many people miss when they create an advertising campaign or website promotion strategy. You must test, retest and measure your results constantly. You must know what ads work, what ads don’t work and what each one does for conversion rates (conversion rates are your visitors divided by the actual number of sales).

When you test your results you can tell which ad gets people to take action and which ones do not. When you find ads that work, create similar ads, changing only one or two words and run that to compare. Use the one that works best and repeat the process. Are your results cyclical or seasonal? If so, use that information to plan your strategy for those periods.
