Article writing is a wonderful way to promote a business and build yourself up as an expert. In this article, I am discussing the five major mistakes newbie article writers often make, that are easily avoided. Take these mistakes out of your article writing and you will have much more success at writing.
Article Writing Mistake: Spelling Errors
With almost every text editing program having a spell checker, there’s no excuse for poor spelling. Proof read your article and make sure you run a spelling check before submitting your article anywhere. You may not know the difference between “loose” and “lose” but your reader might.
There are variations in the English spelling of words, so stay consistent with the one you choose as neither are technically wrong. The main differences occur between the English and American spelling of words. Examples are jewellery – jewelry, summarize – summarise, programme – program, centre – centre.
Article Writing Mistake: Grammatical Errors
Poor grammar is as annoying to a reader, as incorrectly spelling a word. If you don’t know how to use grammar, then at least, use a program such as Word to check it for you. Assume your readers do know the difference.
Article Writing Mistake: Not Proof-Reading
Failure to edit is the next on the list. A first draft is not a finished article and is not ready for submission anywhere. Take the time to proof read your article and make editing changes where necessary. Keep your sentences and paragraphs short for easy reading. Pay someone to proof read for you if you don’t want to do it yourself.
Article Writing Mistake: Lacking Quality Content
Lack of content comes in at number four. You would think writing content for an article is easy, yet so many articles miss their point. Know what your article is about before you start writing, so you can stay on track. Give your readers benefits they can take away and use.
Article Writing Mistake: Promoting Not Informing
You are writing an article, not a press release. If you want to promote yourself or a product, write a press release. An article is information for your reader so they can learn something new. Add links to products and services into your resource box, not inside your article content.
While there are other mistakes that article writers can make, these are the top five. These are the errors that should not appear in articles and can make or break the success of the author. Avoid the five mistakes listed above when article writing and you will become much more successful.
